While studying Indigenous Knowledge in a Village called Koako in Tamale (Northern Ghana), the Chief asked me (Amachi)
"Why don't African Americans feel that it is necessary to come to Africa, don't they want to see their relatives. And why was I the first black from America to come and study tradition in his village, are they ashamed of us?
He went on to say " If blacks in America don’t learn their own Indigenous customs, culture and traditions we will be defeated in the west all hope will be lost for blacks around the world " He looked me in the Eye and said You have to accept the responsibility of teaching my bother and sisters in America " and That he had consulted his elders and they had decided that their Wuni's ( Gods ) would follow me to America to assist me. He went on to say that I was going to help my bothers and sisters in America find there way back to the path of Indigenous Knowledge “they will know the spirits and the Wuni's (Gods) " he said! And if you want to continue with your studies with my people you must accept this responsibility. " At the time I didn’t realize how this conversation would change my life. I accepted the title, Amachi Amaga Apetor Wunana (The controller and holder of the Dwarfs) It is now my mission to address the cultural voids in the African American community.
